Warring States Simulator

Spring, 350 BC. The house of Zhou still holds the Mandate of Heaven and rules a patch of land smaller than a county. Around it, seven states are done pretending: they field armies of a hundred thousand conscripts, they annex their neighbours in daylight, and each of them intends to be the last one standing.

Wei is the hegemon and everyone's problem. Qi has the deepest treasury and a strategist it keeps in a covered carriage. Chu is half the world and cannot make a fist. And out west, behind the passes, a state the eastern courts barely count has handed a foreign clerk the power to rewrite every law it has.

You take one state and rule it — reform it, arm it, marry it, betray with it.

  • Rewrite the law. Break your own nobility to double your levies, and find out who survives the reform: the state, the reformer, or neither.
  • Vertical or horizontal. Chain the weak against the strong, or make your own peace with the strong and be eaten last. Both are on the table. Both have a price.
  • Fight for real. Grain, distance, walls and the harvest calendar decide campaigns. Sieges take seasons. Field battles can end a dynasty in an afternoon.
  • Hire the man at the gate. The persuaders, engineers and strategists of this age belong to whoever listens — including your enemies, if you turn them away.

Win by unifying all under heaven. Lose your state and it is partitioned among the men who were your allies last season.
