Medieval: People of the Millennium
In 476 AD, the Western Roman Empire collapsed, and barbarian kings built kingdoms on its ruins. A thousand years later, in 1453, Constantinople fell to Ottoman cannons, marking the end of the Middle Ages. In this millennial span, those who made up over 90% of the population—peasants, tenant farmers, craftsmen, merchants, drifters, and beggars—struggled to survive amidst plague, war, famine, faith, and the lord’s lash.
You will play as an ordinary person, born into an era of change and challenge. Whether it's the 5th-century chaos, the 7th-century Islamic conquests, the 9th-century Viking raids, the 11th-century Crusades, or the 14th-century Black Death—the era you are born into is the era you must endure.
- 🌾 Live off the land: Spring plowing, summer tillage, autumn harvest, winter storage; one missed planting could mean a year of starvation.
- ⛪ The Church is everywhere: Baptism, marriage, last rites, festivals, tithes, and inquisitions; your soul and livelihood are in their hands.
- 🛡️ War and pillage are mundane: Lordly levies, Viking longships, nomadic invaders, mercenary bands; no one is spared.
- 🦠 Plague, famine, and pestilence: When villages die overnight, it is not a legend; it is history.
- ⏱️ Life is short: You will likely not survive past your thirties or forties. The wheels of history will not stop for anyone.
