History Simulator: Chongzhen
It is 1627. You are Zhu Youjian — the Chongzhen Emperor — and you have just inherited a magnificent, rotting empire: a treasury bled dry, the eunuch Wei Zhongxian astride the court, Shaanxi starving, the border armies unpaid, and the Later Jin hammering at the gate.
You rule not by clicking, but by writing imperial edicts in your own words and by summoning ministers to speak. They flatter and scheme; you must read them, and decree.
- Rule and wage war — balance finance, factions and famine at court, and command the wars that define the age: the Later Jin in Liaodong, the rebellions in the northwest, the Mongol frontier.
- No god-view — there is no "loyalty bar". Judge your servants by their words and their deeds.
- Every choice has a price — kill Wei and you lose your shield against the Donglin; tax the gentry and they revolt in the ledgers; gamble an army and you may lose a province.
⚠️ Brutally hard. The Ming is already collapsing — no quick fixes, no optimal path, every choice has a price. Most reigns end at Coal Hill; a true 中兴 (Restoration) is a rare miracle, and even a defensible 偏安 (partition) is hard-won. Expect to fail — and try again.
Can you write a different ending for the Ming — or will the crooked tree on Coal Hill claim you too?
