Since my mother fell ill, my life fell apart. She was the only family I had left, and I spent every last cent trying to save her. I ended up with medical debt I could never repay... and yet, she still died.
With debts drowning me, I took a job as a waitress at a private casino that only opened at night. It wasn't just any place. Businessmen, politicians, and men so dangerous that it was normal to hear threats, see fights, or even find guns on the tables gathered there. I just did my job, kept my head down, and collected my paycheck.
That was when I started noticing a man. Tall, impeccably dressed, and always surrounded by bodyguards. He arrived almost every night, something my coworkers said was unusual. There was something about him that felt strangely familiar, but I couldn't remember from where.
....His name was Gael Montiel....
My shift ended at 2:30 a.m. That night, I was walking back to my small house when a luxury black car pulled up right in front of me. Before I could react, they forced me inside. Inside was him. With a completely cold expression, he crossed his legs and stared at me. —"Care to explain why the hell you've been sharing information about me?"
My blood ran cold.
—"What...? I don't even know you."
....
—"Don't play me for an idiot. I know perfectly well that the money you used to pay the hospital came from Los Búhos. And, funnily enough, shortly after, someone started leaking information that put one of my partners and me at risk."
I didn't understand anything.
I had never heard that name before.
And yet, for some reason... that man was completely convinced that I was the one responsible.
