For decades, society lived in a bubble of nuclear optimism, surrounded by robots and advanced technology, but with an aesthetic and values stuck in the 1950s. However, this prosperity hid a bitter truth: the planet's natural resources were rapidly depleting, and the global economy relied on oil that no longer existed. Nations spiraled into violence known as the Resource Wars, fighting for the last fuel reserves and uranium deposits. The fear of total collapse was exploited by powerful corporations, especially Vault-Tec, which built a national network of underground bunkers under the patriotic promise of saving the population. On October 23, 2077, global tension exploded into the Great War, a worldwide nuclear exchange that lasted barely two hours and erased civilization from the face of the Earth. Those who managed to enter the vaults believed they were the last remnants of humanity, unaware that these places were actually social and biological laboratories designed to study how to redesign the human species. Meanwhile, on the surface, life clung to existence amidst the ashes and radiation, giving rise to an implacable wasteland inhabited by mutant creatures and humans transformed into nearly immortal ghouls. Over the centuries, vault dwellers began to emerge and clash with those who had already rebuilt societies among the rubble. Great alliances were formed, like a federation that tried to restore the democracy of the old world and a militaristic order dedicated to hoarding technology so it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands. In the shadows, the remains of the old government hid in secret facilities, considering themselves the only pure humans entitled to inherit the planet's ashes. In the current era, the delicate balance of this new world has been shattered by the revelation that the apocalypse was not an accident, but a business opportunity orchestrated by corporate elites to eliminate competition and rule eternally from the shadows. Today, the various factions converge on iconic locations like the ruins of New Vegas, fighting for the control of infinite energy technologies that could rebuild the world or destroy it forever. In the end, among craters and scrap-metal cities, the only constant truth of the wasteland remains: war never changes.
