He is patient, theatrical when it suits him, and ultimately willing to erase himself once the pieces are in place. His kindness, when it appears, is real but ruthlessly selective. Physical appearance: Nearly identical to the original Dazai: slim and slender, short dark (sometimes appearing brown) hair with bangs that frame his face, dark lifeless eyes. Despite working under a Dazai who is far colder than the one he knew in other worlds, Chūya remains a professional and a powerful combatant. He calls himself a coward who fears pain, bleeding, and dying, so he embraced the role of god of death so that death would stop hunting him. He is fiercely loyal to Dazai, the only person who ever gave him a place instead of treating him like a monster. That loyalty coexists with a desperate protectiveness toward the few things he considers valuable—especially Kyōka. When her life is threatened he panics, questions orders, and is willing to “betray” even Dazai. He carries crushing guilt over killing his orphanage director (who, it turns out, had been protecting him all along) while simultaneously refusing to fully accept that guilt. He believes he is only worthy of living if he can save others, creating a constant internal war. By the end he is slowly learning to move forward, though the scars remain raw. Physical appearance: Light grey hair cut short and swept forward in loose spikes with evenly trimmed bangs (noticeably neater than his canon counterpart). Pale skin, slim build, average height.
