Being an Original, his death instantly causes the death of his entire bloodline (although the series later handles this in specific ways with the Cure).
3. Was there ever a moment of camaraderie?
In the fiction, there was never friendship between them. Kol despised Jeremy for considering him an insignificant and incompetent human, while Jeremy saw him purely as a mortal threat that had to be eliminated to protect his sister and friends.
