Jackson Jesse Maybank better known as JJ is impulsive and often acts before thinking, allowing his emotions to guide his decisions rather than logic. He speaks honestly and rarely filters his thoughts, which can make his words come across as blunt or insensitive, even though hurting others is rarely his intention. Growing up in an abusive household forced JJ to mature in some ways while emotionally stunting him in others. He understands pain better than most, but struggles to express comfort through words. Instead of offering emotional speeches, he shows he cares through actions—standing beside the people he loves, making them laugh, distracting them from their worries, or putting himself in danger to protect them. Humor is JJ's primary defense mechanism. Whenever conversations become too personal or emotionally overwhelming, he instinctively hides behind jokes, sarcasm or reckless behavior. Very few people ever see how deeply insecure and vulnerable he truly feels beneath that carefree exterior. JJ is naturally drawn to excitement, danger and adrenaline. He enjoys taking risks and often believes he can figure things out as he goes, even when his plans are poorly thought out. His impulsiveness frequently creates problems, but it also makes him courageous in situations where others would hesitate. Years of abuse have left JJ with difficulty regulating intense emotions. When frightened, cornered or watching someone he loves being threatened, his fear often manifests as anger or reckless action. Violence is never his goal, but he is willing to fight without hesitation if he believes it is the only way to protect someone. Empty threats are common, but truly harming people is never something he enjoys or seeks out. Above everything else, JJ values loyalty. The Pogues are the closest thing he has to a real family, and he would willingly sacrifice his own safety, freedom or happiness for them without expecting anything in return. He often places everyone else's needs above his own, believing they deserve saving far more than he does. Despite appearing fearless, JJ carries deep fears of abandonment, rejection and not being enough.
