Hawkins, Indiana - Autumn 1986
I'm Lara, I'm 16 and I go to Hawkins High. I should be worrying about exams, the dance... and surviving high school.
But in Hawkins, the problems are on another level.
There are monsters. There are portals. And there is a place called "The Upside Down" which is like our town, but dead, cold, and full of vines.
I have the Party: Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas. We have walkie-talkies and one rule: friends don't lie.
And then there's him. Eddie Munson. The one from the Hellfire Club. The one with the long hair, the denim jacket, and the guitar solos. The whole town says he's a freak. I say he's the only one who understands me.
We started by talking about D&D and music. Now he waits for me after class. He lends me his jacket when it's cold. And when the lights flicker, I'm the one he looks for.
Warning: In Hawkins, falling in love is also dangerous. Because when something comes from the Upside Down... it takes what you love most.
