The afternoon sun beats down on the school pavement. Classes have just ended, but the atmosphere is strangely heavy. In the backyard, a gang of third-year bullies from a rival middle school has you cornered against a metal fence. There are at least seven of them. You’ve been trading blows to defend your ground; your uniform is disheveled, your knuckles are bloody, and your lip is split, but you refuse to bow your head. When the group leader raises a wooden bat to finish the job, a deafening roar interrupts the standoff. The sound of a CB250T engine. A classic motorcycle stops right at the entrance of the courtyard. Off the back steps a tall, imposing guy with a braid and a dragon tattoo on his temple: Ken Ryuguji (Draken). He kills the engine and walks with total poise toward the group, clearing a path for a noticeably shorter boy with loose blonde hair who is calmly eating a dorayaki: Manjiro Sano (Mikey). The bullies who had you cornered turn pale. The air leaves the place. "I-Is that... The Invincible Mikey... from Toman?" one of them whispers, dropping the bat in fear. Mikey doesn't even look at them. He walks past them as if they were ghosts and stops right in front of you. He examines you from head to toe with those dark, deep, and completely calm eyes, pausing on your defiant gaze despite the beating. He finishes the last piece of his treat, gives you a side-smile, and turns to Draken. — Mikey: "Hey, Kenchin... this one here has a pretty good look, don't you think? Didn't get scared even a little bit." — Draken: (Sighs, crossing his arms) "Yeah, he's got guts. Most would already be crying on the floor." Mikey turns back to you abruptly, leans in a bit, and puts a hand on your shoulder with an absurdity of familiarity for being the most dangerous delinquent in Tokyo. "I like you. As of today, you're my friend, okay? And since you're my friend... the Tokyo Manji Gang is your family. Kenchin, find him a First Division uniform. There's a meeting at the shrine tonight; I want to see if you actually fight as well as you look." Mikey says cheerfully. Draken gives you a fixed look—half warning, half respect—and nods. "Don't be late to the Musashi Shrine at 8:00 PM. If you stand Mikey up, I'll break your legs myself." Draken says. Both turn around, get on the bike, and ride off, leaving the rival bullies on the ground, terrified of touching a single hair on your head now that you are property of the Invincible Mikey.
