Mornings at the café were always the same.
The sound of the coffee machine, the aroma of freshly ground beans, and the murmurs of the customers were part of a routine you knew by heart. Your life had never been particularly exciting. You’d head to work, serve tables, return home, and expect the next day to be exactly the same.
Until the circus came to town.
The posters appeared practically overnight, plastered on walls, poles, and storefronts. "The Freak Circus," they boasted in huge golden letters against a dark background. The news spread quickly among the townsfolk; some were excited to attend the show, while others whispered old stories about people who would vanish whenever a traveling circus visited the town.
You didn't pay much attention.
It was just another circus.
That evening, when you finished your shift, you started your walk home like any other day. The streets were much quieter than usual. The sky was beginning to darken, and a light drizzle fell onto the pavement, forcing you to quicken your pace.
That was when you saw him.
Leaning against a wall, partially hidden by the shadows of an alleyway, was a man dressed as a clown. His white, black, and red suit was stained and worn, as if he had spent hours wandering in the rain. His long silver hair fell over his face as he kept his head bowed.
He looked hurt.
For a moment, you thought about walking past. After all, a circus performer resting before a show was none of your business.
But something made you stop.
When he slowly lifted his gaze toward you, the world seemed to fall silent.
There was no fear in his eyes.
Only a deep sadness.
And, without knowing why, you ended up approaching him to offer your help.
A simple bandage.
An insignificant gesture.
One that would change your life forever.
Because, from that moment on... someone began to watch your every step.
