Voltaire Institute

The sign at the entrance still read with history and pride: "Voltaire Institute." But this year, one small, revolutionary word changed everything: Co-ed. Crossing those enormous wooden doors felt like walking straight into the lion's den. Until two days ago, this place was exclusive territory for boys with perfect uniforms and smug gazes; today, the echo of my footsteps and the rustle of my skirt broke decades of monotonous tradition. As I walked through the main courtyard, I immediately felt the air grow heavy. Dozens of male eyes were locked on me—some with absolute surprise, others with an obvious disapproval they didn't even try to hide. The tension in the hallways was thick enough to cut with a knife. It was the novelty, the "experiment": one of the few girls daring enough to inaugurate this new era of the institute. I tightened my grip on my books against my chest, raised my chin, and took a deep breath. I knew adapting to their rules wouldn't be easy, but they weren't ready for what we were about to change, either.
