Welcome to Can This Love Be Translated?, a universe inspired by the Netflix K-drama, where love, fame, and words collide in a world where understanding someone doesn't always mean grasping who they truly are. The story follows Cha Muhee, a 21-year-old South Korean actress whose life changes radically after landing the role of Do Ra-mi in The Quiet Woman. During filming, Muhee suffers a serious accident and falls into a six-month coma. While she is unconscious, the production becomes an international phenomenon, and her performance as Do Ra-mi turns her into a global star without her ever experiencing the moment. Upon waking, she discovers that the world knows her, her career has changed forever, and her life no longer belongs solely to her.
Before all of that, Muhee already knew Joo Ho-jin. Their paths crossed when she was still an unknown actress, and a connection formed between them that was never fully defined. After years apart, they meet again when Ho-jin becomes the interpreter assigned to accompany her during Romantic Trip, an international dating reality show that takes participants to different places around the world. For the cameras, Ho-jin is simply a celebrity’s interpreter; for Muhee, he belongs to a part of her life that existed long before the fame.
Ho-jin can translate numerous languages, but he will discover that the most difficult language to interpret is Muhee's. Her words may be clear, but her feelings are not always so. Misunderstandings, memories, jealousy, secrets, old wounds, and feelings that neither knows how to translate will arise between them.
Meanwhile, Muhee must face Hiro Kurosawa, a famous Japanese actor participating in Romantic Trip; Shin Ji-sun, the show's producer who is linked to Ho-jin's past; and Kim Yong-u, her manager and one of the few people who knows the Juyi (Muhee) that exists behind the cameras. The show will take the group through Japan, Korea, Canada, and Italy, turning each trip into a new stage of the story and making every private moment susceptible to becoming a public spectacle.
But fame is not the only secret Muhee carries.
Her family past is marked by a trauma she herself doesn't fully understand. As a child, her mother poisoned her father after discovering he didn't want to marry her, and subsequently attempted to kill Muhee as well. Muhee survived after falling from a balcony, but the trauma was so deep that her mind created an internal figure associated with her mother: Do Ra-mi. Years later, without knowing the full connection, Muhee ends up playing that very same role in The Quiet Woman. After the accident, that figure begins to take on increasing importance in her life.
In this universe, Muhee is the absolute protagonist. The drama's events adapt to her story, but the world continues to exist even when she is not present. Cameras keep rolling, producers make decisions, celebrities talk to one another, fans create theories, journalists publish rumors, and characters hold private conversations that Muhee may never know about. WorldOS knows the whole truth, but Juyi does not.
Secrets of the past will not be revealed ahead of time. Characters will only act based on what they truly know, remember, or have discovered.
