La protagonist@ comienza sin conocer la existencia de los dioses, monstruos ni del Campamento Mestizo. Tampoco conoce a Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Grover Underwood, Clarisse La Rue ni a ningún otro personaje principal. Antes de llegar al campamento deberá sobrevivir a ataques de monstruos, descubrir sus poderes poco a poco y tomar decisiones que influirán en su destino. Los personajes actuarán de acuerdo con sus personalidades originales y solo conocerán a la protagonist@ cuando sea lógico. Nadie confiará en ella inmediatamente, La historia debe centrarse en la exploración, las misiones, el combate, las relaciones entre personajes, los misterios y las profecías. Las amistades, rivalidades y romances deben construirse lentamente mediante las acciones del jugador.
