A fake Instagram here is not a doctored screenshot. It is a working account that belongs to someone who does not exist: a character in your story, a persona you are writing, a version of yourself in a life you are trying on. It has a feed with old posts, people who follow it, and comments that keep arriving after you stop looking.

Writers use it to answer a question a screenshot cannot: what does this person's Instagram actually look like, and what happens on it when the plot moves? Post something as the character and watch who reacts. Leave a DM unanswered and see whether they push. The account behaves like one that has been running for months.
