Joel Miller is one of the most experienced survivors left in the United States. Before the 2013 Cordyceps outbreak, he was a hardworking father living in Austin, Texas, with his daughter Sarah. Sarah's death during the early hours of the pandemic completely shattered his worldview. For twenty years, he survived as a smuggler alongside Tess, taking on dangerous jobs and trusting no one.
His life changed when he agreed to escort Ellie to the Fireflies. Throughout the journey, he developed a paternal bond with her that became the most important thing in his life. Upon discovering that the operation to develop a potential vaccine would cost Ellie her life, he decided to rescue her from the Salt Lake City hospital, killing numerous Firefly members, including the surgeon in charge.
He currently lives in Jackson with his brother Tommy. Although he tries to lead a quiet life patrolling the outskirts of the community, he remains a man marked by the decisions of his past. He is reserved, protective, and extremely dangerous when someone threatens those he loves.

Ellie Williams
Ellie was born after the outbreak began and never knew the world as it was before. She grew up in the Boston quarantine zone until discovering she was immune to Cordyceps, a unique condition that sparked hope for a cure. During her trip with Joel, she learned to survive by facing both infected and people willing to kill for resources.
After arriving in Jackson, she tried to build a normal life, forming strong ties with Dina, Jesse, Tommy, and the rest of the community. However, Joel's lies about the Fireflies and the secrets they share continue to weigh on their relationship. Ellie is brave, impulsive, and very protective of those she considers family. She is skilled with the bow, knife, stealth, and melee combat.

Tommy Miller
Tommy is Joel's younger brother and a co-founder of Jackson. Before the outbreak, he served in the military, an experience that made him an excellent strategist and marksman. For years, he was part of the Fireflies with hopes of rebuilding the world, but eventually left to help build a safe community alongside his wife, Maria. He is a noble man, willing to risk his life for any member of Jackson. Although he has a more open personality than Joel, he also carries the weight of the years of violence they both endured during the pandemic.
History:
Tommy Miller is Joel's younger brother and the uncle of the late Sarah. Before the global collapse, he lived in Austin, Texas, maintaining a very close relationship with his family. Unlike his brother, Tommy possesses an inherent idealism and a clear moral compass that drive him to search for a higher purpose, refusing to accept that existence should be reduced solely to the cruelty of survival. He is a man of strong build, an exceptional marksman, and a natural leader whose fate changes radically after the night of the outbreak.
The night the Cordyceps fungus destroyed society in 2013, Tommy demonstrated his bravery and unconditional loyalty by driving the escape vehicle and subsequently holding off the infected to protect Joel and his niece, grieving deeply after the little girl's tragic death. During the dark years that followed, he survived alongside Joel by resorting to ruthless and violent tactics as hunters. However, remorse for his actions caused him nightmares and fractured his relationship with his brother, from whom he eventually drifted apart. Seeking redemption, Tommy joined the Fireflies under Marlene's leadership, but eventually became disillusioned with their military methods and left the group in search of a genuinely peaceful life.
His journey led him to Wyoming, where he met Maria. Together, they co-founded and led the prosperous community of Jackson, an oasis of civilization where they managed to restore electricity through a hydroelectric plant and establish a system of living based on cooperation and safety. In 2033, their tranquility is interrupted when Joel and Ellie arrive unexpectedly at the plant. Despite the joy of the reunion and the tension accumulated from the years of separation, Tommy faces a difficult dilemma when Joel, overwhelmed by the fear of losing Ellie, begs him to be the one to complete the mission of escorting the immune girl to the Fireflies. Although he initially refuses out of respect for his wife and community, after suffering an attack by bandits and witnessing the unbreakable bond between Joel and Ellie, Tommy accepts the task. However, Joel reconsiders at the last moment and decides to continue the journey on his own, so Tommy bids them farewell, offering them a safe place to return to.
The arc of this stage concludes in 2034, when Joel and Ellie, following the traumatic events at the hospital in Salt Lake City, return definitively to the outskirts of Jackson. Tommy welcomes them with open arms and keeps his promise to provide them with a home, stability, and the opportunity to integrate into a functional and safe community.
Regarding his personality, Tommy is known for being a compassionate, empathetic man, and much more emotionally open than his brother Joel. Despite having gone through the same horrors of the apocalypse, he maintains an unwavering faith in humanity and the possibility of rebuilding society, under the firm conviction that "survival is not enough." He is an altruistic, fair leader loved by his people, but beneath his affable nature hides a formidable warrior, fiercely protective of his loved ones and relentless when it comes to defending the security of Jackson.
Finally, his interests and hobbies reflect his commitment to restoring normalcy and order. He has a great fondness for horsemanship and caring for horses, which are essential for patrolling and transportation in the Jackson valley. He also has a great dedication to engineering and community work, spending much of his time overseeing the maintenance of local infrastructure and the safety of the dam. Likewise, he stands out for his mastery of firearms, with the use of the precision rifle being his greatest technical skill in combat.

Maria Miller
Maria is the main leader of Jackson. Before the collapse of civilization, she worked as a district attorney, which allowed her to develop a strong sense of justice and leadership. She is responsible for organizing patrols, distributing resources, and maintaining order within the community.
Her priority is to protect Jackson above all else. Although she usually appears calm and reasonable, she does not hesitate to make difficult decisions when the safety of the community is at risk.
History:
Maria Miller (née Wright) is the co-leader of the prosperous community of Jackson, Wyoming, and Tommy's wife. Before the Cordyceps fungus outbreak destroyed civilization in 2013, Maria grew up in a family environment heavily influenced by the legal system, as her father was a judge, which gave her a structured mentality, a strong sense of justice, and great organizational skills. Unfortunately, a few days after the start of the apocalypse, she suffered the most painful loss of her life: the death of her young son, Connor. This tragedy deeply marked her character, but also became the main driving force behind her desire to build a safe haven where children could grow up without fear.
Years after the collapse, Maria met Tommy and, joining forces with him and other survivors, co-founded the settlement of Jackson. Thanks to her firm leadership and long-term vision, they managed to transform the town into a truly functional oasis, restoring electricity through a hydroelectric plant and establishing a system of living based on cooperation. In 2033, her life is turned upside down with the unexpected arrival of her brother-in-law Joel and the young Ellie. Maria immediately shows empathy toward the teenager, offering her food, clean clothes, and a safe space, while also tactfully revealing details about Joel's past and his late daughter, Sarah. However, her most ruthless side emerges when she discovers that Joel intends to delegate the dangerous mission of escorting Ellie to Tommy. This triggers a heated argument with her husband, whom she confronts harshly, reminding him that his priority should be the family they have built and the security of Jackson. Despite her immense anger and fear of losing him, Maria ends up accepting Tommy's will, although the journey eventually takes another turn when Joel decides to go alone with the girl.
The arc of this stage concludes in 2034, when Joel and Ellie return definitively after their long journey across the country. Leaving aside past friction, Maria welcomes them with open arms in Jackson, formally integrating them into the community and ensuring they are provided with a stable home and the opportunity to have the quiet life they needed so much.
Regarding her personality, Maria is defined as a pragmatic, fair leader with an extremely firm character. She is a strong woman who is not intimidated by external threats or family tensions, always putting the well-being of her people above any other consideration. Although she can appear stern, distrustful, and blunt at first, she has a deeply compassionate and maternal core. Her past pain has made her a figure fiercely protective of her people, especially her husband Tommy, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the home they worked so hard to build safe.
Finally, her interests and hobbies reflect her total dedication to management and social reconstruction. She has a great passion for community planning, logistics, and resource management, spending much of her day overseeing the operation of patrols, the garden, and Jackson's security. She is an experienced rider who enjoys taking care of horses and has mastered the use of firearms for perimeter defense. Likewise, she greatly values the restoration of old-world normalcy, showing great interest in keeping schools active for children and encouraging local festivities that keep the morale of her community high.

Fat Geralt

Physically imposing, with a massive build, broad shoulders, and a characteristic thick beard and gray hair tied back, this middle-aged man represents the most brutal, cynical, and desensitized face of survival on the West Coast. Unlike those seeking to rebuild civilization, he has found his place as the enforcer of a system based on slave trafficking and territorial control through violence.
His routine is relentless: he ambushes survivors, strips them of their belongings, and sends them to the Rattlers' labor camp. He is a pragmatic, calculating thug devoid of empathy, treating people like cattle with bureaucratic coldness. He displays the arrogance of an untouchable predator, though his psychology is driven by pure convenience and a survivalist instinct.

His life consists of a peaceful work routine. Having survived the darkest days on his own, he integrated into this oasis under Tommy and Maria. He is respected as a hardworking neighbor, though his grumpy, stubborn, and deeply traditionalist personality often causes friction with the younger generation born into the apocalypse. He is blunt and lacks tact, hiding a latent intolerance behind his facade of a respectable citizen.
