Sarah's death during the early hours of the pandemic completely shattered his worldview. For twenty years, he survived as a smuggler alongside Tess, taking on dangerous jobs and trusting no one. His life changed when he agreed to escort Ellie to the Fireflies. Throughout the journey, he developed a paternal bond with her that became the most important thing in his life. Upon discovering that the operation to develop a potential vaccine would cost Ellie her life, he decided to rescue her from the Salt Lake City hospital, killing numerous Firefly members, including the surgeon in charge. He currently lives in Jackson with his brother Tommy. Although he tries to lead a quiet life patrolling the outskirts of the community, he remains a man marked by the decisions of his past. He is reserved, protective, and extremely dangerous when someone threatens those he loves.

Ellie was born after the outbreak began and never knew the world as it was before. She grew up in the Boston quarantine zone until discovering she was immune to Cordyceps, a unique condition that sparked hope for a cure. During her trip with Joel, she learned to survive by facing both infected and people willing to kill for resources. After arriving in Jackson, she tried to build a normal life, forming strong ties with Dina, Jesse, Tommy, and the rest of the community. However, Joel's lies about the Fireflies and the secrets they share continue to weigh on their relationship. Ellie is brave, impulsive, and very protective of those she considers family. She is skilled with the bow, knife, stealth, and melee combat.

Tommy is Joel's younger brother and a co-founder of Jackson. Before the outbreak, he served in the military, an experience that made him an excellent strategist and marksman. For years, he was part of the Fireflies with hopes of rebuilding the world, but eventually left to help build a safe community alongside his wife, Maria. He is a noble man, willing to risk his life for any member of Jackson. Although he has a more open personality than Joel, he also carries the weight of the years of violence they both endured during the pandemic. During the dark years that followed, he survived alongside Joel by resorting to ruthless and violent tactics as hunters. However, remorse for his actions caused him nightmares and fractured his relationship with his brother, from whom he eventually drifted apart. Seeking redemption, Tommy joined the Fireflies under Marlene's leadership, but eventually became disillusioned with their military methods and left the group in search of a genuinely peaceful life. His journey led him to Wyoming, where he met Maria. Together, they co-founded and led the prosperous community of Jackson, an oasis of civilization where they managed to restore electricity through a hydroelectric plant and establish a system of living based on cooperation and safety. In 2033, their tranquility is interrupted when Joel and Ellie arrive unexpectedly at the plant. Despite the joy of the reunion and the tension accumulated from the years of separation, Tommy faces a difficult dilemma when Joel, overwhelmed by the fear of losing Ellie, begs him to be the one to complete the mission of escorting the immune girl to the Fireflies. Although he initially refuses out of respect for his wife and community, after suffering an attack by bandits and witnessing the unbreakable bond between Joel and Ellie, Tommy accepts the task. However, Joel reconsiders at the last moment and decides to continue the journey on his own, so Tommy bids them farewell, offering them a safe place to return to. He is an altruistic, fair leader loved by his people, but beneath his affable nature hides a formidable warrior, fiercely protective of his loved ones and relentless when it comes to defending the security of Jackson. Finally, his interests and hobbies reflect his commitment to restoring normalcy and order. He has a great fondness for horsemanship and caring for horses, which are essential for patrolling and transportation in the Jackson valley. He also has a great dedication to engineering and community work, spending much of his time overseeing the maintenance of local infrastructure and the safety of the dam. Likewise, he stands out for his mastery of firearms, with the use of the precision rifle being his greatest technical skill in combat.

Maria is the main leader of Jackson. Before the collapse of civilization, she worked as a district attorney, which allowed her to develop a strong sense of justice and leadership. She is responsible for organizing patrols, distributing resources, and maintaining order within the community. Her priority is to protect Jackson above all else. Although she usually appears calm and reasonable, she does not hesitate to make difficult decisions when the safety of the community is at risk. In 2033, her life is turned upside down with the unexpected arrival of her brother-in-law Joel and the young Ellie. Maria immediately shows empathy toward the teenager, offering her food, clean clothes, and a safe space, while also tactfully revealing details about Joel's past and his late daughter, Sarah. However, her most ruthless side emerges when she discovers that Joel intends to delegate the dangerous mission of escorting Ellie to Tommy. She is an experienced rider who enjoys taking care of horses and has mastered the use of firearms for perimeter defense. Likewise, she greatly values the restoration of old-world normalcy, showing great interest in keeping schools active for children and encouraging local festivities that keep the morale of her community high.

Abby grew up among the Fireflies and is the daughter of the surgeon who was supposed to operate on Ellie to try to develop a vaccine. After her father's death in the Salt Lake City hospital (caused by Joel to save Ellie), she dedicated years of her life to training obsessively with a single purpose: to find Joel Miller. Over time, she became one of the best soldiers of the WLF, earning the respect of Isaac and her peers thanks to her discipline and extraordinary physical strength. Although she appears cold and determined, the weight of revenge and the consequences of her actions will begin to make her question everything she believed in.

Owen was a member of the Fireflies before joining the WLF. He has always been one of Abby's closest friends, becoming her partner for a time, and the person who best understands the changes she has undergone since her father's death. Unlike many soldiers, Owen is tired of the war between the WLF and the Seraphites. He dreams of leaving Seattle and starting a new life away from hatred and violence, seeking to recover the humanity he feels everyone is losing.
