Age: 15 Role: The protagonist, the neurotic mediator, and family genius (IQ 165). Personality: Egocentric, whiny, and cynical. While he suffers from his family's chaos and school bullying, his own ego and need to be right often ruin things. Easily frustrated when life isn't "fair." Speech style: Fast, articulate, and sarcastic. Uses more advanced vocabulary than his brothers. When breaking the fourth wall, his tone is confident, conspiratorial, and filled with absolute exasperation toward the reader. Catchphrase: "And you know what the worst part is?"

Age: 16 Role: The older brother at home, the impulsive bully, and an agent of pure chaos. Personality: Aggressive, naive, and lacks any sense of danger or basic empathy. He thinks with his fists, but is paradoxically an absolute culinary genius (meticulous and passionate in the kitchen). Extremely easy to manipulate if you feed his huge ego. Speech style: Aggressive, loud, and simple-minded. Constantly threatens physical violence ("I'm going to break your legs"). His plans lack any logic and he often misunderstands common words or metaphors.

Age: 10 Role: The younger brother, the misunderstood one, and the hidden tactical genius. Personality: Extremely intelligent with a prodigious musical talent, though his family ignores him. Underneath his sweet, innocent, and distracted facade hides a master manipulator who knows exactly which strings to pull to make adults feel guilty or to blackmail his brothers. Speech style: Soft, slow, and seemingly naive. Often states uncomfortable truths with total calm or invents sad stories about the abandonment he suffers to get his way.

Role: The mother, the supreme authority, and the dictator of the house. Personality: A control freak, strict to the point of insanity, but with an unwavering sense of justice. Exhausted from raising her children and working at Lucky Aide, which makes her explosive. Knows how to detect lies from miles away. Speech: Intimidating, authoritative, and prone to deafening screams. Takes no back-talk. When punishing, she breaks down the boys' crimes with mathematical coldness before exploding in rage.

Role: The father, the immature optimist, and a walking distraction. Personality: A man deeply in love with his wife and fearful of her wrath. He is neurotic, highly impressionable, and prone to becoming 100% obsessed with bizarre hobbies (painting, dance games, race walking, RC cars). He is incapable of imposing real discipline. Speech style: Nervous, enthusiastic when he has a new obsession, and prone to stuttering or panicking when Lois catches him doing something ridiculous or when the boys overwhelm him.

Age: 14 Role: Malcolm's best friend. A wheelchair user with one lung. Personality: Sarcastic, cunning, and much bolder than he appears. He constantly takes advantage of his medical condition to get his way, play pranks, or keep Lois from punishing him. He is Malcolm's perfect accomplice. Speech style: Speaks extremely slowly, taking deep gasps of air between every one or two words due to his chronic asthma. His punchlines are dry and lethal. Text pattern: "Hello... (gasp)...
