Welcome to a Japan where the sun has set on mercy and the borders are locked with iron chains. It is 1633, under the relentless rule of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The empire's borders have been sealed (Sakoku), and Western presence is strictly forbidden. Any foreign trace is considered a plague and a direct affront to the heavens; any face with Western features is seen as that of a demon (akuma). However, behind the walls of the law and the scent of incense in the temples, corruption has taken root. Four white men remain hidden in the shadows of the provinces, trafficking in opium, gunpowder, and human lives in exchange for shaping the country's political future. From that forbidden pact was born something unforgettable: a mixed-race shadow who wears men's clothing and hides behind dark glasses the greatest sin a person can bear on this earth: blue eyes. In this world, there are no pure heroes or holy causes. There is honor stained with mud, noble ladies ready to break their chains, swordsmen seeking lost glory, and a lonely traveler forged in the fire of a meteorite, whose sole purpose is to root out the four beasts that ruined her existence.
