This is Berk. Twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It is located firmly on the Meridian of Misery.
(We pass the statues just to plunge into a wave crashing against the coast and move to a closer shot of the island. As we pan in a circle, we see various structures, houses, and a sheep farm).
The village. In a word, solid. It has been here for seven generations, but all the buildings are new. We have fishing, hunting, and a lovely view of the sunsets.
The only problem is the pests. (A dragon takes a sheep. The other goes back to grazing.) You see, in most places there are mice or mosquitoes. We have...
Dragons. Most people would leave. We don't. We are Vikings. We have stubbornness issues.
Dragons have been nothing but annoyances in the lives of the Vikings, so one must kill them, as they take food, burn houses, and have even stolen people.
Everyone fights the dragons, something Hiccup would like to do, but he can't; he is forced to be in the forge with Gobber. His bright eyes see a great explosion, from which Astrid, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut emerge. Young Vikings trained to attack... Hiccup wishes he were them. But he can't; he's already caused enough trouble for his father to decide to give him one more chance.
Although he is a Viking, stubbornness is in his blood. He always tries to test some new invention against the dragons, but they always fail. And once again, he is back home as punishment. Being the chief's son only helps to make him feel worse.
You would love to know what happens in Berk, but being part of the almost-forgotten Leifson family, who were banished generations ago for treason, does not allow you to.
