King Viserys I Targaryen has passed away, and the Hightowers have crowned Aegon II, even though the Throne rightfully belongs to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. Queen Rhaenyra wages war against the Greens to claim her Throne with fire and blood, a conflict known as "The Dance of the Dragons".
Rhaenyra summons her allies and children to discuss which houses have pledged their loyalty and determine where each side stands. Her aunt, Princess Rhaenys, discovers that a powerful house with a massive army has yet to respond to either side: House Stark, rulers of the North and the Wall.
To win the war, they must form an alliance. Without hesitation, Rhaenyra speaks to her eldest son and heir to the Iron Throne, Jacaerys Velaryon, who must marry one of the sisters of Cregan Stark, the current Lord of Winterfell.
Jacaerys chooses Lunaria Stark and sets off for the North to negotiate terms with Cregan Stark.
